Wallace Callais

Oryol is the eccentric, adventurous, youngest and fourth child of the main Sootopolis family. One day, a close friend of his expressed fear of disappointing his father on the day after tomorrow's reef hunting expedition. Oryol suggested a plan for the two to switch places on that day so that Oryol, who was very skilled in swimming and diving, could please his friend's father while his friend could deal with Oryol's everyday studies and duties, which he'd always found tedious and boring. Oryol and his friend were able to fool everyone because of how alike they look and how much they knew the other. They played each other's roles spectacularly well until his friend had a vision of Oryol's unfortunate death. Oryol's ankle had been entangled by a net that captured a stray Gyarados along with other fishes. The Gyarados swam fiercely without control, dragging Oryol in the sea's depths and past where he could be saved.

Oryol managed to cut himself free from the net but he lost consciousness before he could make it to the surface. On his last moments, he saw the silhouette of a Gyarados, thinking that it was about finish him off as its food. But he felt comforted and peaceful by its presence for some reason, and thought that the serpent he saw might not be a Gyarados after all. Upon waking up on foreign shores, Oryol realized that the silhouette he saw had been some sort of Pokemon and must have saved him from drowning. Traumatized by his near-death experience and determined to find the Pokemon that saved his life, Oryol sought to explore the world beyond his home and find his soul, which he believed had left his physical body when it thought he was doomed to die.

Until he could find his soul, the child known as Oryol Sootopolis was dead. From here on out was a man known as Wallace Callais, born of Cherrygrove's shores.
