Grew up as the daughter of two bodyguards hired by House Lavaridge, and thus  was subjected to the same training as the children of the house. Upon discovering the tradition of tossing weaklings into the volcano, worked hard to become the strongest. Left Lavaridge fourteen years ago without looking back, choosing to work as a trainer-for-hire and has been doing so ever since. Has her own sense of justice, but fairly loose morals -- dog-eat-dog world and such. Fearless, yes, but not stupid. Can generally be persuaded with enough money.

And war is certainly good for business.
SNOWBALL
Wall - Bouncy and energetic. Ilena kicks him around; he always comes right back. Tamed on one of her jobs in Shoal Cave. He followed her out, and since then the little puff has been following her. Can take a lot of hits. A bit too light-hearted for Ilena's liking, but is capable enough.
RAPTURE
Wall - Tamed when she left Lavaridge. Kind of meek, which drives Ilena up the wall -- but the woman still does her best with him. One of the few things Ilena can claim to be attached to. In return, Rapture is constantly trying his best. He forgets his size sometimes.

Born in a bastard child in Sinnoh. Blackthorn-branch-family father, commoner mother; taken to Johto when mother died seventeen years ago and shunned by the rest of the family for lineage. Was originally Ophelia Snow, changed her name upon meeting the rest of the Blackthorns. Generally pretty positive, but not above holding grudges. Suspects foul play in her mother's death. Not fond of nobility as a whole, nor of the ongoing feud between the Blackthorn branches (and, by extension, the war). Really, though, couldn't give any less of a shit about who comes out on top.

VOLNA
Sweeper - Like her mistress, is fairly easygoing when in a good mood. However, isn't above spitting in faces when displeased. Renka is first, second, and third priorities -- even if she tends to give Renka a hard time. Gift from Renka's mother. Very strong bond of trust between the two.
SABAK
Utility - Snappy. Literally. Favorite treat are fingers of the unsuspecting, though knows better than to bite at Renka. Terrified of Volna, for various reasons. Tamed when Renka needed to prove herself a 'true' Blackthorn. Despite their differences, still cares for Renka -- kind of.

The daughter in the crone-mother-daughter trio, was eleven when Saffron attacked. Lost her father and younger brother in the attempted takeover, and will never forget what happened. A medium since she was born, she'd always been more comfortable with morbidity and the deceased than with the world of the living, though she's had to lock her discomfort away to help lead the family. Her main goal: restore House Lavender to what it was before.

To that end, she's been engaged to a son of House Saffron.
CUONG
Wall - Her little brother. Found a few months after the attack; still as energetic as ever. Tends to play pranks on Phuong, but very obedient around everyone else. (Kind of.) Gets up in arms about Phuong's safety -- in a passive-aggressive way.
NUIT
Utility - Phuong's first friend -- arguably her only friend, apart from her brother. Obedient, loyal, but stern. Pushes Phuong as much as she pushes him. Generally stays in her shadow. Main purpose is as decoy or information gatherer; as it turns out, lots can be learned from a person's nightmares.
FEU
Sweeper - Tried to mislead Phuong once. Ended up defeated. Took a liking to the medium, and so Phuong decided to keep her. Not the most resilient of pokemon, but hardworking and loyal. A bit of a ditz, though.
